Preparing for Your NDIS Planning Meeting

What is the NDIS Planning Meeting?

The NDIS first planning meeting serves as the initial step in your journey with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). During this meeting, you'll have the opportunity to introduce yourself to your early childhood partner, local area coordinator (LAC), or a representative from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). They will reach out to you to schedule a suitable time for your meeting, ensuring that you're comfortable and ready to discuss your needs and aspirations.

Who Can Accompany You?

A Trusted Friend or Family Member: You're welcome to have a trusted friend or family member accompany you to the meeting. Their support can be invaluable as you navigate the process.

Consider an Advocate: An advocate is someone who specializes in helping individuals express their wants and needs effectively. If you feel that you might benefit from having an advocate by your side, don't hesitate to request one. Your early childhood partner, LAC, or NDIA planner can assist in finding an advocate who will work to ensure your voice is heard.

The NDIS planning meeting is your chance to make your goals and requirements known, and having someone there to support you can make the process more comfortable and productive.

What to Bring to Your NDIS Planning Meeting

Participation Booklet Two: This booklet serves as a valuable tool to prepare you for a planning conversation. Make sure to bring it to the meeting, as it will be an essential reference during your discussion.

Any Letters from NDIA: If you have received any correspondence or letters from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), please bring them with you. These letters might contain important information or updates regarding your NDIS plan.

Participants' Bank Account Details: If you are considering self-managing all or a portion of your NDIS funding it's crucial to provide your bank account details.

Participants' myGov Login and Password: Your myGov account is essential for managing various government services, including your NDIS plan. If you need help getting these, please talk to your early childhood partner, LAC or NDIA planner

Items to Check Off on Your Pre-Meeting Checklist

Booklet Two: Booklet Two is where you can outline your goals, preferences, and what's currently working well in your life. Don't forget to mention anything that might need adjustment or improvement. This will be a key part of the discussion during your meeting.

Write Down Your Questions: It's normal to have questions or uncertainties about your NDIS plan. Jot down any queries or concerns you'd like to address during the meeting. This will help ensure that you don't forget anything important.

Decide Who Will Attend the Meeting: It's a good idea to determine who else should join you at the meeting. This might include family members, support workers, or advocates who can provide additional insights and support.

Gather Supporting Information: To help the NDIS better understand your circumstances and the impact of your disability, collect any relevant information or reports. These could include medical records, assessments, or reports from specialists. The more information you provide, the clearer the picture the NDIS will have of your needs.
